■ CANDLE PROP BUILDS | HOW TO GUIDE
■ CANDLE PROPS
■ Saw how to make these on a forum, and was blown away at how easy they were. I should have made a load more of them, as they just looked so effective.
■ These were mostly used around my Valak prop build to make her look more atmospheric. The only issue with making a lot of them, is that after each haunt close, I'd have to go round and individually switch them all off... then the next night switch them all back on again lol. hardly an exciting job by any means.
■ If you're thinking about making a lot of these up, then I'd really recommend investing in a small 9v power supply or smaller, and wire up some resistors, and run them off mains. Either way, the method I used of just running them on CR2302 (similar) style coin batteries worked great, and they lasted ages.
■ HOW TO MAKE THEM...
■ HOT GLUE BURNS - CAUTION!
■ Watch your hands when dripping the hot glue down the sides. It can seriously hurt your skin and burn you!
■ First up. Grab some PVC pipe from your local DIY store. Take along a tea light to see if they sit inside the pipe ok. Grab around 6m of it or more, and chop them up into different lengths.
■ You'll need a hot glue gun and a ton of glue sticks. You can then bunch them up together and glue them tightly together. Keep the tall ones at the back, and stagger the heights to make them look more realistic.
■ Next grab the glue gun and drip hot glue down the sides to make it look like candle wax.
It helps to let it dry and apply another few more layers to make it look like the candle has been used a lot.
■ Repeat this process as many times as you like and build as many as you need, that way when you spray them, it's all done.
■ Use white spray paint to paint it. Make sure to put some old cloth or drapes as you spray so you don't deface your concrete or grass too much.
■ You can try adding some black spray paint, and wipe it off quickly to make the candles look aged and dirty.
■ Push a small piece of foam inside and glue gun it down. This will allow the tea light to sit inside at the right height. I measured the height of the tea light before you glue a piece of foam in. I used pipe insulating foam, which worked great.
■ Try different colours. I tried a few red ones and they looked cool, giving the impression of blood dripping out from the candles. Feel free to experiment and come with some cool ideas.
