■ 2018 | PUMPKIN MODS
■ 2018 | PUMPKINS...
■ 2018, and this is my bad, was the first year I introduced a load of battery operated light up pumpkins. Tesco was selling a shed load of them, so I just snapped them up. However the lights inside were really small, and ran on cell/button batteries.
■ This made them ripe for modding. I had a boat load of super bright orange and green LEDs, and some leftover battery packs. Armed with a hot glue gun and my trusty soldering iron, I ripped out the old LEDs, and replaced each pumping with two or sometimes four super bright LEDs. They worked great throughout the haunts.
■ The original circuits were small and low powered. Ripe for modding...
■ Hooking up two, three or sometimes four gave me some super bright lighting inside the pumpkins.
■ Once soldered on, I connected up the battery packs to test them.
■ 2018 | HOTTER THAN THE SUN...
■ They were so bright, that you couldn't look directly into them. A couple of resistors later, and they were much better.
■ The green LEDs were the brightest and stood out way more than the orange ones. I tried some red LEDs and they were very dim in comparison. Green won!
■ Lined up and ready to go scaring....
■ GREEN OR ORANGE?
■ I made about 5 with green LEDs, and about 3 with orange LEDs in. I just used what I had at the time lying around.
■ A great little mod as the pumpkins were made of hard wearing plastic and have lasted years!
■ Nothing says Halloween more than a few Jack-O-Lanterns dotted about the haunt! Loved these little chaps!
■ SHINY SHINY
■ Changing over from small low powered button cell batteries to Duracell 9v packs meant that these lasted ages, weeks in some cases, and lit up the darkest corners of the haunts.
